i've been doing A LOT of looking inwards the last week or so. more than i would normally like, but it's what has been necessary as i grow up.
i was thinking about all the wonderful things my mother has taught me and is still teaching me. that's the great thing about moms ... they keep teaching. i'm pretty sure i am learning more now than i did as a child because i am actually listening. wish i had listened earlier.
anyways ... i was thinking about things i want my kids to know ... if the Lord blesses me with children. i hope he does.
here are a few of them.
1. you are BEAUTIFUL. i want you to look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself that they are simply beautiful. i will force you to do it if i have to. i don't want you to just think i think you are beautiful. i want you to know it, and believe it, for yourself. confidence, real genuine confidence, will be your greatest asset in life!
i ran across this video the other day and thought it was amazing. this is the kind of thing i want to teach my kids to do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR3rK0kZFkg
2. mistakes don't matter. we all fall down. we all get hurt. just pick yourself up and try harder next time. but if you make a mistake ... it isn't the end. it's just the beginning of a new understanding.
3. perfection doesn't make you more lovable. there is no need for perfection. try your hardest to be like Jesus, but don't beat yourself up when you don't feel like you measure up. my love and God's love are completely unconditional. there is nothing you can do to make me love you any less. i can only love you more and more each day ... warts and all.
4. you can be anything you want to be. dream big. apply to any college you want. no matter the cost. if you want to study over seas ... do it! your options are endless and i want to help you know all of those options. i'll sacrifice anything i have to to make your dreams come true.
5. let love win. in a world where things are hard and people are not always kind. let love win. no matter your situation ... look through it with the eyes of love and let love write your story. don't become angry or hard because of the things you are not getting or don't have ... look at what you do have and allow the love for those things to fuel your passion. write your own fairytale and live it out.
6. spend time with Jesus. just the 2 of you. everyday. i don't know what this looks like for you, but i beg of you to do it. the more time you spend with him ... the more you know him, personally. and the more you trust him. and the less likely you are to allow your faith to falter. when you know his voice and his touch you will truly live. you won't just be alive. you will be LIVING! Jesus is alive and well and is jealous when you don't spend time with him. the time you spend with him is worth it. believe me. please believe me!
7. the true desires of your heart can only be met my Jesus. that thing that you keep feelings is missing in your life will only be filled when you are in heaven with him. don't beat yourself up when you don't "feel" right. it's just because this world is not our real home. i hope and pray and believe that the Lord will provide for you on this earth. he will give you the desires of your heart. i know he will. i trust he will. but we will not know the fullness of his goodness until we are with him. so don't be so hard on yourself when life doesn't seem like it feels right. one day it will!
8. fall in love. fall in love as many times as you need to before you really fall in love. God made us for relationships. pick your friends wisely and if you like them ... tell them. and fall in love. one day you will be thankful for the lessons you learned along the way. just be smart. but i trust you so i know you will be. remember the feeling your stomach feels when you really like someone. it will get you through the toughest days (and yes, that same person who makes you have butterflies now ... might cause those tough days, but it's all worth it!)
9. i will ALWAYS love you!
